چکیده

In many organizations, production planning is part of a hierarchical planning, capacity/resource allocation, scheduling and control framework. The production plan considers resource capacities, time periods, supply and demand over a reasonably long planning horizon at a high level. Its decision then forms the input to the more detailed, shorter-term functions such as scheduling and control at the lower level, which usually have more accurate estimates of supply, demand, and capacity levels. Hence, interaction between production planning and production scheduling/control is inevitable, not only because the scheduling/control decisions are constrained by the planning decisions, but also because disruptions occurring in the execution/control stage (usually after schedule generation) may affect the optimality and/or feasibility of both the plan and the schedule. If the overall performance of the production system is to be improved, disruptions must be managed effectively, with careful consideration of both planning and scheduling decisions. This chapter focuses on the interaction between production planning and scheduling, emphasizing the coordination of decisions, with special emphasis on making robust decisions at both levels in the face of unexpected disruptions. We provide examples and realistic scenarios from semiconductor manufacturing. To capture the interaction between production planning and scheduling, we suggest an intermediate model between the two levels. One can view this as a lowerlevel planning model or a higher-level scheduling model, but ultimately it provides a middle ground between the two levels of the decision-making framework. In many systems, the longer-term, aggregated production plan is used to facilitate scheduling. This is usually achieved by creating specific work orders or jobs of different product types that collectively resemble the output required by the production plan and generating a release schedule for the jobs. For example, semiconductor manufacturers

Flow shop Scheduling Problem with Maintenance Coordination: a New Approach

This study investigates the coordination of production scheduling and maintenance planning in theflow shop scheduling environment. The problem is considered in a bi-objective form, minimizing themakespan as the production scheduling criterion and minimizing the system unavailability as themaintenance planning criterion. The time interval between consecutive maintenance activities as well as the...

An Integrated Aggregate Production Planning Model with Two-Phase Production System and Maintenance Costs

Aggregate production planning (APP) is one of the most important issues carried out in manufacturing environments which seeks efficient planning, scheduling and coordination of all production activities that optimizes the company's objectives. In this paper, we develop a mixed integer linear programming (MILP) model for an integrated aggregate production planning system with closed loop supply ...

Simultaneous production planning and scheduling in a hybrid flow shop with time periods and work shifts

Simultaneous production planning and scheduling has been identified as one of the most important factors that affect the efficient implementation of planning and scheduling operations for the production systems. In this paper, simultaneous production planning and scheduling is applied in a hybrid flow shop environment, which has numerous applications in real industrial settings. In this problem...

A Hierarchical Production Planning and Finite Scheduling Framework for Part Families in Flexible Job-shop (with a case study)

Tendency to optimization in last decades has resulted in creating multi-product manufacturing systems. Production planning in such systems is difficult, because optimal production volume that is calculated must be consistent with limitation of production system. Hence, integration has been proposed to decide about these problems concurrently. Main problem in integration is how we can relate pro...

Decentralized Decision-making Structures in Production Planning and Control Based on Cybernetic Principles

The increased turbulence of corporate environments for production enterprises is characterized by shortened product lifecycles and cumulative variants. Customers demand smaller delivery lotsizes with higher variance and shorter delivery times. Short lead times and the resulting need for fast reaction to dynamically changing environments play a major role in production planning and control (Wieh...
